GO ALONG to one of New York City-based vocalist Milo Z’s shows and just try to sit still. It’s tough work. The spirited performer, who enjoys a somewhat cult following, especially in Athens and Thessaloniki, is bringing his bad funky self to local shores this month for a string of shows.

SCENE: Milo Z brings the funk to Boston again
Milo Z decided the best way to
move forward musically was to take a half-step
back. His new album "Throwback" is one of the
year's most invigorating blasts of pure energy.

Dust off your
platform shoes and get your bell-bottoms out of
storage 'cause the master of razzamofunk and his
warriors are coming. Calling themselves Milo Z,
this group has been known to bring down the
house with a unique blend of funk, soul and
rock. The sound is big, soulful, fat and funky.
Milo Z brings together a diversity of sounds and
proudly combines influences from Sly Stone,
James Brown and the Neville Brothers. The band's
debut album for Mercury Records, "Basic Need to
Howl", spans funk soul and rock. Many of songs
are simply about having a good time and feeling
good, but Milo also likes to write songs that
"drop science."
Everybody's News
(Cincinatti, OH)
" A United
Nations of p-h-o-n-k, this multi cult
brotherhood pumps rhythm, straight up, into the
hip-hop-along-Cassady raps of
vocalist/percussionist Milo Z. guaranteed to
blow the couch out from under even confirmed
potatoes."
High Times
"...Neither familiar nor predictable is
the situation where an opening act almost
threatens to steal the show. But Milo Z a young,
New York based, six man band almost did it.
Fusing pop, jazz and frenetic funk, the group
displayed dramatic flair in a 30 minute show
that was polished yet sweaty oozing with a raw,
rock & roll sexuality"
Carlo
Allegri, Toronto Sun
"...Openers Milo Z... Based in New York they've
built a strong cult following in the Big Apple,
but appear ready to break out nationwide. Singer
Milo Z combined the 60's mania of Sly Stone with
the 80's mania of Prince, capped by some
hip-hop/funk from the 90's Red Hot Chili
Peppers".
Steve Morse, Boston
Globe
"...The opening act was
Milo Z, a seven piece outfit from New York who
served up a six song mix of R&B and modern rock
that was well received by the crowd. For a new
group they captured attention and started the
evening with the right note, the prelude for
things to come."
Cecelia D.
Johnson, Cincinnati Enquirer
"...a fine and fun young multi racial funk band
which wears influences like Sly and the Family
Stone, James Brown, Funkadelic and The Time on
their musical Sleeves..."
Wayne
Bledsoe, Knoxville News-Sentinel
"...New York's Milo Z, was a motley bunch,
but they sure could play. With rap-scat vocals
and zip-lock-tight, choreographed funk riffs,
this post go-go septet-a mash of the JBs, Chili
Peppers and Tower of Power woke up the early
crowd..."
Tristram Lozaw, Boston

The band has been on tour with the Neville Brothers. They have also opened up for many great acts such as The Spin Doctors, Maceo Parker, Chuck Brown, The Funky Meters, The Average White Band, Aquarium Rescue Unit, God Street Wine, El DeBarge and G-Love & the Special Sauce.
Milo Z has also appeared on the Pat Bullard Show (the WB Network) and had a song in the feature film The Deli (Golden Monkey Pictures).
